Russia has announced the development of a cancer vaccine that will be available to patients very soon. According to the Russian News Agency (TASS), the cancer vaccine, based on mRNA technology, will be available to patients free of charge in early 2025.

In mRNA technology, an immune response is generated in the body by using the replication of a molecule called Messenger RNA (mRNA). Andrey D. Kaprin, Director General of the Radiological Medical Research Center of the Russian Ministry of Health, confirmed the development of the vaccine on December 15.

Earlier, on December 9, Alexander Ginsberg, Director of Russia’s Gamaleya National Research Center, said that in the preclinical trials of the cancer vaccine, it has been proven that it helps to stop the growth of tumors while the messenger does not spread from one part of the body to another.

He further said that using artificial neural networks, the duration of the development of a cancer vaccine can be reduced, in fact it can be possible in less than an hour using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

He said that it takes a lot of time to develop vaccines right now, but we are relying on AI for this work, which can make the vaccine very soon. He said that AI has been trained with data from sequences of 40,000 to 50,000 tumors to select and target specific antigens of cancer-affected cells. It is not yet clear what type of cancer this vaccine will help treat, in fact, the name of the vaccine has not yet been revealed.

In June 2024, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said in an interview that several teams of scientists were working together to develop the vaccine.

Similarly, in February 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that scientists in Russia are working hard to develop a cancer vaccine and soon a vaccine for the deadly disease will be available. “We have come very close to making cancer vaccine and immunosuppressive drugs for the new generation that will soon be available to patients,” the Russian President said in a televised program Future Technologies Forum.
