KPC newly-elected body called on President of Pakistan, Sindh Governor

The newly-elected Karachi Press Club (KPC) body has called on President of Pakistan Arif Alvi and Sindh Governor Imran Ismail at the Governor House on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the newly-elected KPC office-bearers including its President Fazil Jamili, Secretary Rizwan Bhatti, Vice President Rasheed Memon, Treasure Waheed Rajpar, and Joint Secretary Aslam Khan were present. The incumbent members of the Governing Body include Khalil Nasir, Farooq Sami, Liaquat Mughal, Athar Hussain, Mona Khan, Shazia Hasan and Nabeel Akhtar were also there.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail hosted lunch in honour of the newly elected body of Karachi Press Club at Governor House. President Dr Arif Alvi also graced the occasion.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the stability and sustainability of democracy and the role of journalistic fraternity in the establishment of the Islamic welfare state.
The elected journalists apprised the President and the Governor of the difficulties being faced by journalists in performing their professional duties. President Arif Alvi said the contribution of journalists to democracy was commendable. He assured the journalists of solving their problems.
The governor said the present government has been taking measures in order to solve the problems of the journalists, adding that, the role of the journalists was quite significant for the eradication of social evils. During the meeting, the President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi assured to provide complete support for the approval of Karachi Press Club’s land lease.
The newly-elected body presented the problems of the journalists before the President. The KPC Governing Body demanded to appoint a judge at ITNE and President assured it to immediately appoint the judge.
On this occasion, Secretary KPC, Rizwan Bhatti deplored that photojournalists are not considered journalist in media laws, which is an injustice to them. In order to amend the law, the President of Pakistan asked the suggestions from Karachi Press Club.
The Governor of Sindh Imran Ismail said the government is aware of the journalists’ issues and it stands by journalists today, even in the past.
