Tips for Conserving Energy
What is Energy?
Energy is anything that can be found everywhere. In everyday life, people require different types of energies to work out such as heat energy, electrical energy, mechanical energy, etc. But, energy is such special thing that cannot be created but, can be transformed from one form to another through different activities. For example. While ironing clothes, electrical energy converted into heat energy, or work is done by applying force at a certain distance and it can also transform energy into one form to another. Sun is also another source of energy that can transform into different types.
Energy Conservation and its Importance:
The use of less amount of energy by the system, people or society through any means such as economy, elimination of waste or any rational way is called as energy conservation. It is not only the source of saving money, but also good for the environment safety and stability. The energy conservation should also reduce the use of fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas, which results in lower emission of Carbon-di-oxide gas which is the main source of global warming.
Energy conservation is very important for making environment good and stable because without this universe will deplete all its natural resources. Human being can’t able to survive without these resources. Thus, in order to maintain the balance life style, people should take initiate to reduce the demand and protect and replenish supplies of such resources by applying different techniques of conserving energy.
Tips for Conserving Energy:
To make the environment, pollution free and healthy, it is obligatory on human being to take care of their natural resources and take necessary steps to conserve energy in lesser and more lesser amount. Following are some tips that surely help the people to conserve energy.
- Curtains can help heating and cooling costs. Open blinds or shades facing the sun to allow the sun to warm your home and keep them closed on shady days and at night to keep the heat inside. It is also a good step to keep turn off the lights in daytime. Using daylight decrease the burden on power station and results in less energy consumption.
- During the summer, you can close the “fresh air intake” valve on your air conditioner to save energy. Re-cooling the air inside your house is easier on your unit than cooling hot air from the outside and reduces electricity used.
- Appliances of a feather flock together? If you keep your refrigerator near your oven, both will have to work harder (i.e. consume more energy) to work efficiently; however, if you separate them, they are not counteracting one another and will use less energy to do their job. Likewise, heating appliances, such as your oven and dishwasher, can feed off of each other’s energy in a positive way to use even less energy.
- Separating your clothes by weight before drying can help reduce drying time and conserve energy. If you combine heavy and light fabrics, your dryer is likely to run longer than necessary.
- Tuck your hot water heater in all of the time. Wrapping a fiberglass blanket or an insulating jacket around your water heater can reduce water heating costs by as much as 10%. You can also insulate hot water pipes to reduce heat loss from the water heater to your faucet.
- It may pay to avoid washing dishes! Hand-washing actually requires more hot water than your dishwasher. Just make sure your dishwasher is full to maximize the benefits since your dishwasher is set to wash the same amount of dishes whether they’re available or not.
- When baking, avoid opening your oven door to check on your food as much as possible. This lets hot air out and requires more energy to reheat to the correct temperature.
- Use fluorescent bulbs. They only use 25% as much energy as regular bulbs. If you can’t tolerate fluorescent lighting, use energy saving bulbs with halogen gases that use less electricity while burning.
- Install shower heads with a lighter water flow. These are usually inexpensive and prevent a lot of excess hot water usage.
- Take a hike! Maybe not literally, but try to cut back on using your car. Walk to the corner store instead of driving. Carpool with a friend from work or take the bus. Also, the next time you’re in the market for a new car, look at a hybrid or at least consider the gas mileage of the car you would like to purchase. Saving gas means saving money and the environment!
- Shaded trees must be planted near and inside the house and house walls must be painted with lighter color if lives in warm climates or with darker color if live in a cold climate. This can save approximately 2.4 tons of carbon-di-oxide gas emission annually.
- All windows must be modernized. Double-Gazed, argon filled windows will reduce the emission of Carbon di oxide gas, oil heat and electric heat.
